Attention: Start-Ups and Entrepreneurs!
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is searching for the next hot start-up that is leveraging AWS to build its infrastructure and business.
Do you have a great idea or an existing application that uses services from AWS? Enter the AWS Start-Up Challenge to win $100,000 in cash and AWS credits, and receive an investment offer from Amazon.
Tell us about it
To enter, developers, entrepreneurs, and start-ups begin by completing an online application by October 28, 2007. The Amazon judges' panel will review all applications and choose five finalists, based on originality and creativity of the idea, likelihood of long-term success, how well it addresses a need in the marketplace, and implementation of pay-as-you-use Amazon Web Services.
Finalists will be announced in November and Amazon will produce a video of each finalist to post on aws.amazon.com where the community can vote for their favorite start-up.
The final countdown
For the Final Round, AWS will fly the finalists to Amazon Headquarters in Seattle to present their idea to the judges' panel. That evening, the finalists will pitch their business to VCs, mingle with industry leaders and Amazon executives, and be featured at the AWS Start-Up Challenge Awards Dinner, where the grand prize winner will be announced.
Reap the rewards
Prizes include $50,000 in cash, $50,000 credit toward Amazon Web Services, an investment offer from Amazon, and mentoring sessions from an Amazon Web Services Technical Expert. All five finalists will be included in various promotional activities and be featured at the invitation-only AWS Start-Up Challenge Awards Dinner.
Plus, all contestants with qualified entries will receive up to $25 for their use of Amazon Web Services during the contest. The credit will be applied against actual use by the entrant of paid Amazon Web Services from September 1st to December 31, 2007.

An useful and contest related news :), it's for programmer.
Are you the best programmer?
Not every programmer wishes to test his programming skills in a contest but I know that many do. I enjoy programming- though much is repetitive, occasionally I get a new challenge that stretches me. So I have compiled a list of programming contests. Most of these happen once a year but some are continuous and you can enter at any time.
If my own experience is anything to go by, the experience of stepping outside your programming "comfort zone" is entirely beneficial. Even if you don't win a prize, you'll have thought in new ways and be inspired to have another go or learn new techniques.
Studying how others solved the problem can also be educational. There are many more contests than I have listed here but I've winnowed these down to ten that anyone can enter. Most important of all you can use C, C++ or C# in these.

As always Woophy is very curious what is happening in your corner of the World. Don’t worry we are not looking for the ‘World Press Photo’ or expect you to risk your life in the frontline of a war zone. In line with Woophy’s aim we want you to help us to create a photographic, collective, visual, current, and democratic online world map. Any news picture is good, whether it is about small local news or large world themes like global warming. As long as the photo tells the Woophy members something about the condition of (or on) the earth in 2007.
Prizes : OLYMPUS E-410 SLR camera.
To join the competition submit your news photo to one of the three categories Background, World News and Raging Reporter. Every month the Woophy staff will reward the best entry with a Woophy T-shirt. In January 2008 a jury consisting of independent photo professionals will choose from all the entries the overall winner and the winners in the different categories.
You can only submit pictures which are already on Woophy. If your picture is not yet on Woophy or you are not yet a member go here.
